You are invited to attend a presentation on Frances
Perkins and a new Center at her homestead in Maine that is dedicated to carry on her work.
At 3:30pm until 5:00pm on April 21, 2009, in the Great Hall at the Department of Labor's Frances Perkins
Building, 200 Constitution Avenue, Washington, DC.
Secretary of Labor, Hilda Solis, will speak at a celebration of
Frances Perkins's life and the launch of the Frances Perkins Center,
including remembrances of Frances Perkins by a man who knew her
well, Dr. Christopher Breiseth, president-emeritus of the Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Institute and personal friend of Secretary Perkins, a presentation from Frances Perkins's grandson, Tomlin Perkins Coggeshall, whose words will be accompanied by photos of the Perkins home, an introduction
to the new Frances Perkins Center from Executive Director, Barbara
Burt, and a new perspective on Frances Perkins's life by Kirstin
Downey, author of the recent Frances Perkins biography: The Woman
Behind the New Deal.
The public is invited to attend, no donations requested but please
note, in order to expedite security check-in, be sure to RSVP in
order to have your name on the admittance list.
Then, immediately following the presentation at the Department of Labor, please join us for a reception:

and work with comments and discussion led by Dr, Christopher Breiseth,

author of the new Frances Perkins biography:
